Just some pics

These are some of the pictures I took on the way to the ocean and at the Grayland/Tokeland area before we headed south to Long Beach. I hope you enjoy them.

These guys have the cutest little faces. They are Alpacas and they live in Rochester, Wa. on Moon Road.

Haha....just adorable.

This blueberry farm is right next door to the Alpacas.  I love how red the bushes get in the fall.

More beautiful fall colors on Moon Road.

It was hard to get the full impact of the yellows and oranges I saw in the grasses and bushes.
The colors were just amazing.

God looking down on the ocean.

One of our favorite stopping places. This is a spot right between Grayland and Tokeland.

Taken from the same spot as above.

The rays emanating from the clouds always represent God to me.
I think it's because of how He was portrayed in movies and pictures.

More of the beautiful sunset with some birds flying through.

Tour of the Cranberry bogs.

Becky and I did the self-guided tour of the cranberry bogs in Grayland while we were there in October. They have a Cranberry Harvest Festival every year there and we were there for that weekend. The self-guided tour is nice and gives you a little information about the bogs and the houses around there. There is only one "wet harvest" cranberry bog in Grayland and somehow I don't have a picture of it, although I thought I took a picture of it. Oh well. It's alright. These are the pictures of the bogs and some people working to harvest them. If you click on the link for the self-guided tour you can read more information. I will post pictures of some of the buildings tomorrow or Monday.

This picture shows the "cribbed ditch". The cribbing keeps the edges from eroding away. This is where the farmers walk.

Berries on the cribbing.

An irrigation ditch.

Light rails are used for the push cars which they use to pick up the bags of cranberries and transport them back to the farm buildings.

This eagle was sitting up in the tree while we were buying our cranberries.

We bought our cranberries here. This owner is the only one who no longer grows for the Ocean Spray company. We bought ten pounds each.

The "Furford" picker. This picker was invented here and is used to dry harvest the cranberries. This guy got off and talked with us for awhile.

Stacked bags of cranberries.

They fill these boxes and then put them out on the driveway for the trucks to pick up.

A shed in the middle of the cranberry bogs.

The light rails and the push carts that travel on them.

They look crooked but they work.

Harvesting involves friends and family.

Ay yi yi

Sorry. I had to make up some jam today, and freeze the rest of the cranberries, and paint the trim in the hall, and there just isn't enough time in the day sometimes.
Please accept this filler blog in place of the real thing.

How about a couple of pictures of a mail box in Grayland? Well, actually it is three.

Frogger!

If you don't want to see lots of pictures of a little froggie, then move on! LOL. This little guy liked to shower with Becky while we were at Grayland. He had a buddy that also liked to be in the shower, but when I took my camera down, this was the only one there. I also have some pics taken in the yard of our cabin. Maybe he followed Becky home.

Sitting on the counter.

Getting ready to jump.

Barely bigger than a crane fly.

Getting ready to climb the wall.

Climbing the wall.

In the grass.

It was hard to get him in the grass, so I put him on a piece of bark.

Thanks for looking. Bye now!

Mushrooms

Raise your hand if you play "Animal Crossing".

I love that game, although I still prefer the Gamecube version over the newer Wii version. In the Gamecube version you can hunt for mushrooms between Oct.15th and Oct. 25th. There are five mushrooms each morning, if you get out there right at 8am and hunt for them. They decrease over the hour between 8 and 9, and are all gone by 9am, so it's kind of like the early bird thing.
I tend to time travel when I play this game because I get bored with it if I just do each day when I get to it. This means I set the time and day each time I turn it on to play. Otherwise, it is a game that keeps real time. There are some things you don't get if you time travel, because you have to go back on consecutive days in order for them to work, but otherwise it is your choice.
Anyway...I thought it was just random that they had you go mushroom hunting in October, but apparently that is based on when mushrooms sprout in the real world. I say that, because, on our trip to the ocean we saw more mushrooms than I think I've ever seen before. Mushrooms were everywhere and there was quite a variety, too. Here are some pictures of some of the mushrooms we saw. These are the ones from around our RV park. Tomorrow I will post the ones from Twin Harbors State Park.

Broken.

Mario style but brown instead of red. The actual name is Amanita Muscaria.

There is a little pool of water on this one with leaves floating in it.

1700 Feet to the Beach

Our little cabin at Kenanna RV Park in Grayland sat near the back of the park. Right out our door was a road which ran around the whole park and in between the grassy sections where the RVs hooked up. Our first morning there we decided to take a walk around, and check out the rest of the site. Where the road turned to go around to the other side of the park was a sign that said, "1700 feet to the ocean beaches". We decided to follow the path and go to the beach, but sadly we couldn't go to the actual beach because we were not wearing waders. It was a nice walk though with lots of little hills, bends and turns in the path as you can see in these pictures. Not the most exciting blog, but there you have it!

The beginning was a little muddy.

After a bit it got a little firmer and there was more grass.

As we got closer the brush got brushier!

Stopped by the water! DRAT!!@
